Carson Kvapil Injured in Practice Crash at Charlotte Motor Speedway

JR Motorsports confirmed Thursday afternoon that Xfinity Series driver Carson Kvapil sustained injuries following a serious crash during a practice session at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 21-year-old driver, who pilots the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro for the team, was involved in a single-car incident during final preparations for this weekend’s race.
According to a statement released by the team, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. local time during a routine high-speed lap. Witnesses reported Kvapil appeared to lose control entering Turn 3, causing the car to impact the outside wall at high speed. Safety crews responded immediately, and Kvapil was transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
“Carson was alert and communicative with medical personnel at the scene,” said a representative from JR Motorsports. “He was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. At this time, he is receiving care and undergoing a full medical evaluation.”
While the extent of Kvapil’s injuries has not been publicly detailed, early reports indicate he sustained moderate but non-life-threatening injuries. Sources close to the team said he will remain under observation for at least 24 hours and will not participate in this weekend’s event.
Kvapil, the son of former NASCAR driver Travis Kvapil, has been one of the sport’s rising stars. In his first full-time Xfinity Series season with JR Motorsports, he has consistently posted top-15 finishes and was considered a strong contender for Rookie of the Year honors. His performance has drawn praise across the paddock, and many within the NASCAR community expressed concern and support following news of the accident.
Veteran JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier addressed the media after practice, saying, “Carson is a talented driver and a great teammate. We’re all hoping for the best and praying for a speedy recovery. Safety is always our top priority, and we’re grateful to the medical team for acting quickly.”
It is currently unclear who will drive the No. 1 car in Kvapil’s absence. JR Motorsports is expected to make a formal announcement regarding a replacement driver and updates on Kvapil’s condition within the next 24 hours.
