It’s evident from Mihigan’s current football roster that the Wolverines will need to bolster their squad through the transfer portal this offseason.
While most fans are focused on the quarterback situation, there are other significant gaps to address. The defensive line will see many players leave, and stars like Will Johnson and Colston Loveland are expected to move on, meaning Michigan has to be strategic this offseason.

One key area for improvement is wide receiver. Michigan could face a notable decline at defensive tackle and other spots, but the wide receiver group has particularly underperformed. While some of that stems from quarterback inconsistency—with three different starters in six games—Jack Tuttle seems likely to remain, but the offense still lacks playmakers. This is why Michigan has shown interest in former Indiana wide receiver Donavan McCulley.
McCulley, who has one season of eligibility remaining in 2025, didn’t see much action this year before getting injured and redshirting. However, last season he recorded 48 catches for 644 yards and six touchdowns. Michigan is among eight teams to reach out to McCulley, who was once a quarterback.
As the Wolverines look to revamp their roster for next season, adding a talent like McCulley to their wide receiver corps is essential. However, there will be strong competition, with 13 teams, including Alabama, reportedly interested in him, according to Chris Hummer of 247 Sports.
