LSU bolstered its defensive line for the 2025 season on Saturday with the commitment of transfer edge rusher Jimari Butler.
Butler, who played 11 games and started 10 for Nebraska this season under head coach Matt Rhule, brings significant production to the Tigers. During the 2024 campaign, he tallied 22 tackles (12 solo), 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Nebraska’s loss is LSU’s gain, as Butler has proven to be one of the Cornhuskers’ standout defenders.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound junior, who spent three seasons at Nebraska, compiled 65 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and a forced fumble during his time there. After entering the transfer portal following the regular season, he chose LSU as the destination to close out his collegiate career. Butler has one year of eligibility remaining, thanks to the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver and a redshirt season in 2021.

Before committing to LSU, Butler reportedly considered Florida State and Texas A&M. His addition marks the Tigers’ fourth transfer in two days, joining Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp, Florida cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, and Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown. LSU head coach Brian Kelly and his staff continue to strengthen their roster heading into next fall, with Butler expected to make an immediate impact on the Tigers’ defense.
