Just In:Memphis Tigers pick up another 5-star in the transfer portal-on3

The activity in the College Basketball transfer portal has come to nearly a complete stop as the vast majority of the players who entered the transfer portal have found their final destinations. While most players have committed to their schools, a ton of notable names remain in the transfer portal as some players await official word on their eligibility while others are taking the process slowly.

On the day before the transfer portal closed, the LSU Basketball team lost Freshman Point Guard Curtis Givens to the transfer portal. The news came as a surprise as LSU and Givens announced that he’d be returning to the program less than a month earlier. The circumstances made it seem as if Givens may have been lured into the transfer portal but, based on the fact he has committed yet, is a concern.

On Tuesday, Curtis Givens III will make his next transfer portal visit as he’ll visit the Memphis Tigers.

The news comes on the heels of Curtis Givens III taking a transfer visit to Miami which may give Memphis the best chance at landing Curtis Givens. The Memphis Tigers have a massive need at guard after losing PJ Haggerty, PJ Carter, Jared Harris, and Baraka Okojie to the transfer portal.

Aside from having a massive need at the position, Memphis may have the best shot at Curtis Givens III, as he’s a Memphis Native. As a recruit, Curtis Givens III was a Top-100 recruit, but he’s now unranked as a transfer, which could make him an under-the-radar addition. There’s still a ton of untapped potential with Givens III, and he shouldn’t be judged based on this season, as he likely wouldn’t have played if the Tigers weren’t a terrible team.

Landing with a coach like Penny Hardaway who’s quickly developed a track record for developing guards into stars could be the best thing for Curtis Givens’ development.
