Lamar Jackson is an essential player for the Baltimore Ravens, and he’s hoping this will be the year they secure a Super Bowl victory and “put a ring on it.” While the road to the championship is tough, the Ravens have already clinched a playoff spot and could improve their seeding with a win over the Houston Texans on Christmas Day.
Jackson is particularly excited about Wednesday’s game—not just for the chance to extend their win streak to three games but also because superstar Beyoncé is performing at halftime. Despite players typically heading to the locker room during halftime, Jackson has no plans to miss the show, jokingly telling his teammates, “I ain’t sorry.”
When asked if he’d be disappointed about missing Beyoncé’s performance, Jackson confidently replied, “Nah, I’m going out there to watch. I’m gonna go out there and watch, man.”
Jackson, a self-proclaimed fan of Beyoncé, revealed that he’s never seen the legendary performer live and has no intention of missing the chance to catch the 99-time Grammy nominee in action.
“First time seeing Beyoncé perform and it’s at our game?! That’s dope,” the two-time MVP exclaimed. He followed up with a lighthearted apology to head coach John Harbaugh and his teammates, saying, “I’m gonna go out and watch. Sorry, Harbaugh, sorry. Sorry, fellas.”
When asked if his decision would depend on whether the team has a significant lead, Jackson shook his head, dismissing the idea. “I’m not even thinking about the lead,” he said with a grin. “I’m just thinking about seeing Beyoncé for the first time.”
Jackson clarified that he doesn’t want anyone to misinterpret his comments but stood firm on his excitement about watching Beyoncé perform.
“Not sounding like that, no disrespect, because I know how people can take things,” Jackson explained, emphasizing his respect for the game and his team.
If Jackson follows through on his plan to watch the halftime show, he wouldn’t be the first player to do so. During Super Bowl LVI, Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson famously stayed on the field to watch Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar perform.
The Ravens hold a 10-5 record heading into the Christmas Day matchup, while the Texans are close behind at 9-6.
