After a successful inaugural season under head coach Brian Kelly in 2022, LSU experienced an eventful 2023 campaign, landing themselves in the SEC title game. However, they faced a slight setback last year, despite quarterback Jayden Daniels winning the Heisman Trophy.
Unfortunately for LSU, they’re set to lose a significant portion of their offensive firepower from last season, including Daniels, along with star wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., both expected to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Heading into the upcoming season, the Tigers will need to identify new playmakers to fill the offensive void left by these departures. However, one key player they were relying on won’t be part of their plans after all.
John Emery Jr., a highly touted running back, has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to On3.com. Despite his potential impact, Emery’s departure adds another challenge for LSU in reshaping their offensive lineup.
As a former five-star prospect, Emery amassed 1,062 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, along with 320 receiving yards and two scores during his five years with the program. Now, as a grad transfer, he’s exploring his options outside of LSU.
