BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – LSU sophomore cornerback Javien Toviano turned himself in to authorities on Sunday on charges of video voyeurism, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s office.
Nineteen-year-old Toviano, from Arlington, Texas, is accused of secretly recording himself having sex with a woman without her consent, as stated in an arrest warrant. The woman informed detectives she discovered the videos on Toviano’s iPad, which were recorded using a clock with a built-in camera positioned near the bed, The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reported.
She also told detectives that Toviano had previously recorded their sexual encounters without her consent and had expressed to him that she did not want to be recorded.
In an interview with detectives, Toviano admitted to using a hidden camera to record their sexual encounters, according to the arrest warrant.
Details about his bond were not immediately available, and it is unclear if Toviano has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
LSU released a statement saying that Toviano “has been suspended from all team activities, in accordance with departmental policies.”
“We will not have further comment out of respect for the legal process,” the university added.
Toviano signed with LSU last year, playing in every game as a freshman and starting three of the last five games. He completed his freshman season with 33 tackles and one pass breakup.
LSU’s preseason practice is set to begin on Aug. 1, and Toviano was anticipated to compete for playing time at cornerback.
