Offensive Coordinator for the Miami Dolphins,Agrees to Sign potential deal with panthers

Miami Dolphins Offensive Coordinator Frank Smith, previously considered a dark horse candidate for NFL head coaching positions last year, is now officially being interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the Carolina Panthers. Despite the early speculation, Smith’s coaching prowess has become more evident after a record-setting season with the Dolphins. The interview signifies a potential move up the coaching ranks for Smith, as teams show interest in securing his leadership for their organizations.

At the age of 42, Frank Smith is the fifth candidate to undergo a virtual interview with the Carolina Panthers for the head coaching position, as reported by the team’s official website. He joins a list of candidates that includes interim Head Coach Chris Tabor, Baltimore Ravens Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken, Ravens Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Panthers Defensive Coordinator Ejiro Evero.

Smith embarked on his coaching journey in 2004 as a graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) and later served as the offensive line coach at Butler in 2006, eventually earning a promotion to offensive coordinator. His NFL experience began with the New Orleans Saints, where he worked as an assistant offensive line coach from 2010 to 2014. Subsequently, he held coaching positions with the Chicago Bears (2015-2017) and the Oakland Raiders (2018-2020), serving as the Tight Ends coach.

In 2021, Frank Smith took on the roles of run game coordinator and offensive line coach with the Los Angeles Chargers. Following this stint, he transitioned to Miami, where he became the right-hand man to Head Coach Mike McDaniel and assumed the position of Offensive Coordinator. Presently, Smith is recognized as one of the key architects behind the success of Miami’s dynamic offense. Despite facing challenges, such as a late-season downturn, the innovative strategies employed by Smith have influenced and inspired similar offensive approaches across the league.

Frank Smith is widely respected in NFL circles, boasting a 13-season tenure as a coach primarily focused on tight ends and the offensive line. His notable interpersonal skills are evident through his close connections with players, and his role in nurturing talents like Raiders tight end Darren Waller and Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater underscores his coaching acumen. Smith’s significant involvement in game planning, coupled with his contributions to the continuous improvement of the offensive line, aligns with Miami’s strategic approach under the leadership of head coach and play-caller Mike McDaniel. This collaborative effort ensures the Dolphins effectively utilize all available offensive weapons at a high level.
