REPORT:Duke welcomes new assistant coach…

FAMU can find comfort in the fact that three transfer players, A’Ceon Cobb, Montra Edwards, and Amari Johnson, have publicly affirmed their commitment to Rattler Nation despite the departure of Willie Simmons, who resigned to take on a coaching role at Duke. Cobb, Edwards, and Johnson took to social media to announce their continued dedication to playing for FAMU in the upcoming year. This affirmation is particularly reassuring, especially considering that two Florida State transfers recently declared their decision to de-commit from the program following Simmons’ official resignation on Monday.

Cobb made his commitment to FAMU alongside his teammate Daniel Richardson just last month, marking a move from their initial college experience at Florida Atlantic in 2022. Although Cobb doesn’t have any recorded statistics for his time at FAU, he carries the distinction of being a former three-star prospect. On the other hand, Edwards joins FAMU after a two-year stint at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Mississippi. In the current season, Edwards showcased his skills in nine games, accumulating a total of 27 tackles and four sacks. Before his time at Co-Lin, Edwards initiated his college career at Missouri, where he had limited playing time as a three-star defensive lineman.

Johnson is set to conclude his collegiate career at FAMU as a graduate transfer from UCF, where he spent his entire playing tenure. However, Johnson’s recent season at UCF was limited to just three games, as he was sidelined for the entire 2022 season due to a leg injury sustained in fall camp. In 2021, he demonstrated his skills by catching 23 passes for 138 yards and scoring one touchdown. As FAMU looks ahead to building their next recruiting class amidst the search for a new coach, the commitment from Cobb, Edwards, and Johnson provides a solid foundation. They will be part of the 2024 transfer class, joining Sage Ennis, Daniel Richardson, Jaylen Smith, Demorie Tate, and Daveon Walker.
