The Baltimore Ravens have announced a mutual decision with wide receiver Diontae Johnson to excuse him from team activities this week.
Diontae Johnson recently served a one-week suspension for conduct detrimental to the team after refusing to participate in a game. Since being traded midseason from Carolina to Baltimore, Johnson has seen limited playing time, recording just one reception, which appears to be the primary source of his frustration.
Diontae Johnson, 28, was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, selected 66th overall out of Toledo. He signed a four-year, $4.25 million rookie contract, which included a $1.13 million signing bonus.
Entering the 2022 season, Johnson secured a two-year, $36 million extension as he was approaching unrestricted free agency in 2023. Before the 2024 season, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for cornerback Donte Jackson and a pick swap. Carolina then traded him midseason to the Baltimore Ravens in another pick swap deal.
In 2024, Johnson has played in 11 games, recording 31 receptions on 63 targets for 363 yards and three touchdowns.
Further updates on Johnson’s situation will be provided as they become available.
