The national media consistently suggests that Bill Belichick might embark on his next NFL coaching venture by taking charge of the Washington Commanders. On the contrary, local media in D.C. dismisses such speculations as baseless. The Commanders are anticipated to be prominently discussed as one of the
most likely destinations for Belichick, as noted by ESPN’s Dan Graziano. This report surfaces shortly after the legendary coach’s official departure from the Patriots. Furthermore, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com asserts that Commanders owner Josh Harris is captivated by the idea of having Bill Belichick as the team’s next coach. Despite these intriguing developments, there remains a degree of skepticism.
“As Josh Harris and the Commanders search team continue to work on the new operation, source tells me that Bill Belichick now truly available doesn’t change things,” writes Washington media guy J.P. Findley. “He’s not expected to be in Commanders plans.” And from Ben Standig: “The team is not expected to pursue the ex-Patriots’ head coach, per source.” And from John Keim: “Myself and some others have been
told a few times there was no interest.” Oh. Sounds viable. What is our truth? It’s simple. The media people in Washington are getting their intel from connections inside the Commanders. The media people not in Washington are (maybe) getting their information from either gossiping among themselves or from information planted by Belichick sycophants or by – most disturbingly – simply making it up. We’re bothered in particular by PFT’s hot take. PFT didn’t say “maybe” or “expected to,” both of which we think are wrong. PFT is writing declaratively that Harris is “enamored” with the idea of hiring Belichick to replace the fired Ron Rivera.
