Wolverines pursuing ex-Ohio State commit with ties to Michigan players

In today’s Recruiting Roundup, we’ll look at Michigan’s efforts to recruit a former Ohio State commit with connections to current Wolverines, a top-75 linebacker discussing his interest in Michigan, and an SEC commit who is also considering the Wolverines.

Landing a four-star defensive back is always a win, but it’s even sweeter for the Wolverines if that player was previously committed to Ohio State.

Blake Woodby, St. Frances Academy, Cornerback

Blake Woodby, a Baltimore cornerback ranked 73rd in his class by 247Sports composite, recently decommitted from the Buckeyes. Michigan’s new secondary coach, LaMar Morgan, has been in contact with him since before his decommitment.

“He reached out while I was committed,” Woodby told On3’s EJ Holland. “He asked about my family and other things. He contacted me again, and we’re supposed to talk more now. I want to hear him out and see what he has to say to make the best decision.”

Woodby has connections with current Wolverines, having played high school football with defensive end Derrick Moore and linebacker Jaishawn Barham. The prestige of Michigan also appeals to Woodby.

“I like that Michigan assembles strong recruiting classes,” Woodby said. “I know some of the guys from my area who play there. Michigan is a prestigious program with the best rivalry in college football history. They are known for their strong defenses and for sending players to the league.”

Woodby mentioned he might visit Ann Arbor if Michigan continues to show interest. He also has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Penn State, among others.

South Carolina Commit Considering Michigan
Recruiting is unpredictable, and maintaining contact with committed players can be crucial. This is the case with South Carolina cornerback commit Shamari Earls, who is just outside the top-100 in the 2025 class on the 247Sports composite and is considering Michigan.
